We are so very excited to announce that Flamenco Explained is getting a major overhaul (and not because we got bought out by the flamenco-industrial complex or anything). Ever since we launched Flamenco Explained, we had a vision of how to teach flamenco guitar that just wasn’t technically possible. Even though we chose the platform that in 2017 felt like the very best option for presenting the material, we’ve always felt we had to make compromises when it came to organization. And almost all of the less-than-positive feedback we’ve received about the site has had to do with overwhelm – just too many lessons and not enough direction about how to use them.

That’s all about to change!

We’ve always wanted to have a truly directed experience, so that if you wanted a comprehensive flamenco education, we could say “Start Here,” and then make it dead easy to know what to do next at every step along the way.

If you’re a current subscriber, you’ll also understand why we’ve always wanted to be more than just a massive library of lessons. Why we’ve wanted to be able to attach TABs directly to the videos they go with. Why we’ve always wanted the three videos that go with each falseta (Performance, Tutorial and Slow/Loop) to be in the same place, along with those TABs. And why we’ve just wanted a more directed and organized learning experience.

visual example of the new platform's ability to combine falsetas into one playlist that includes all its elements including the TAB.

Now we get to do all of this.

(And no, the prices aren’t going up. They’ll be the same as they’ve been since our launch in 2017)

The new platform will have a comprehensive Camino (Path) that starts with the very basics and takes you through just about everything you could want to know about playing flamenco. And just a few “onboarding” questions will take you to exactly where you need to be on El Camino based on where you are now. We’ll have six levels – absolute beginner to working pro – and you’ll be able to easily track your progress within each course and each level.

If you’re not into the Camino concept, you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for so much faster. Think a Soleá Page, for example, that has every course related to Soleá, every Soleá falseta (with TABs right there), every Compás Bit, every accompaniment course or video, and anything else relevant to Soleá, all in one place.

We’ll have every video on the site transcribed, with a search engine that can search those transcriptions so you can find the exact spots that are relevant to you within videos.

What won’t change

What won’t change is the content, our approach to teaching, or our commitment to helping you become the best flamenco player you can possibly be. It’ll be the same material, only better organized.

We’ll still be the Flamenco Explained you know (and hopefully love) brought to you by Kai and Tara. We’ll still have the same pricing that we’ve had for eight years now. And we’ll still be available for you by email if you need us.

The move will happen on January 2026. We’re telling you now because as we prepare the new platform, we just find more reasons we’re thrilled to finally be able to do Flamenco Explained the way we’ve always wanted to. And also so we won’t take you by surprise when the move comes.

If all goes as planned, all you’ll have to do when we’re ready is log in to a new URL (which we will share later in the year).

One downside with a silver lining

There is one downside, which is that you will lose your “My List” that you might use on the APPs. The silver lining is the new platform also has a “My List” not only for APP users but for website users too! No matter how you watch our content, you will be able to create a “My List”! We’re totally convinced that the new experience will make up for this possible transition pain of manually recreating your “My List” of videos and we obviously hope you’ll agree once you see the new site.

It’s possible, of course, that we’re overlooking some transition issues. We’re doing everything we can to preempt any problems that might come up, but if you see anything else that might be an issue, please feel free to reach out to us so we can find solutions. This transition is a big job for us (we started in March and it will be done by December), but we’re just so happy about everything we’re going to be able to do for our subscribers. We want to make everything about this transition as smooth as we possibly can.

We are so grateful for the support of our subscribers over the years, and we truly hope you’ll love Flamenco Explained 2.0 as much as we already do.

FAQ’S

email us if you have more Qs for us (lots more information to come!)

When does this happen?

January 26th 2026 is our official launch day. There will be a new URL announced that you will be introduced to.

Will the price go up?

No, it will stay the same price that we’ve had since we launched Flamenco Explained. We’re kind of proud that we’ve never raised our price.

Where are you moving?

We’ve been hosting our videos and using the subscription platfrom available from VimeoOTT and are migrating over to Membership.io.

Will our data be safe in the transition?

Yes, it will. We will not personally see any of your billing data during the transfer, and we will be using best practices to ensure the safest transition possible. It’s as much in our interest to keep everything safe as it is in yours.

Did someone buy or take over Flamenco Explained?

No, it’s still Tara and Kai running the show (and owning it). We’re doing this because we truly believe it will make for a much more satisfying experience for our subscribers.

How does this effect my automatic payment?

If you are a web based subscriber, there will be no change in your automatic payment. It will roll over to the new platform. You will receive an email to log in to the new platform and start your onboarding process.

If you are an App-based subscriber it is a bit trickier as we are moving away from the Apps’ billing platforms. Learn more in the “Announcement” video below.

Why would you do this if it’s not to make more money?

Well, we do hope that a better experience will make Flamenco Explained less overwhelming for current subscribers, and more attractive to potential ones. That’s better for everyone, including our bottom line.

Will I still have access to all of the material on the current Flamenco Explained platform?

Absolutely you will, but it will be much more organized and easier to find.

What if I don’t want to do the Camino because I already know what I want to learn?

No problem. The Camino is optional. You can still choose for yourself what you want to learn. It’ll just be easier to find stuff.

I hate change! (Ok, that’s not a question, but we hear you)

Believe us – we wouldn’t be doing all the work of making this transition if it wasn’t going to result in a better platform for you. It may take a day or two to get used to the new platform, and that may not be fun, but once you do get used to it we’re convinced you’re going to like the new platform better. Kai’s not a huge fan of change either, and even he’s into it.

Will I have to download a new App?

No. When the switch happens there will simply be an update to the Apps that will reflect the new site.

Can I keep my videos in "My List" (Apps)
Unfortunately, you will not be able to since the platform change means new URL/Links for all the content. Good news, the new platform also allows you to create a “My List” even on the Website! (Old platform only lets you do this on the APPs) You may want to write down which videos you have bookmarked so you can re-create your My List.
